ExploringNH Holiday Gift Guide

ExploringNH

I can't believe it's almost Christmas! It's the perfect time to take advantage of sales to refresh your own gear, or get something new for the outdoor enthusiast in your life. We're also big fans of "experience gifts" in our house, and it just so happens we have a few awesome experiences to choose from!

We've also provided a handy list of tried and true items that we have found particularly worthwhile this year! (Disclaimer: If you purchase from our Amazon or REI links, you help support our family business, at no additional cost to you. Thanks for your support!)

Exploring NH Experiences

  1. TransNH Expedition - Our signature 3-day guided trip begins at the Canadian border and travels through the White Mountain National Forest (including the Mt. Washington Auto Road), Kancamagus Highway, west to Newport, NH and some fantastic Class VI roads, ending in Rye at the seacoast. We see waterfalls, covered bridges, exceptional scenery, and the occasional moose. Learn about the history of the towns we pass through from our experienced guides, and stop at local landmarks. We travel primarily on logging roads, back roads, and Class VI roads for the trip. Learn more, or book now!

  1. Driver Training - Learn the basics of 4WD and navigating Class VI roads in our 101 course, or hone your skills in 102. We even have a course focused on taking your All-Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicle on those less-traveled roads. Book a 1:1 training to work on specific skills. Get in touch if you're not sure which class is right for you. Learn more about the classes here.

  1. A First Aid or Wilderness First Aid class. Learn the fundamentals of CPR and AED use in a basic course. If you regularly spend time in remote areas, we recommend the Wilderness & Remote First Aid class to learn how to assess and care for patients with common illnesses and injuries when help is not readily available.

  2. Gift Certificate - Not sure what to sign up for or unsure of the date yet? Get a gift card to be used on any product or service from ExploringNH.

Other Gear

  1. Vehicle Recovery Kits from JM Rigging. These custom kits especially for ExploringNH are awesome. Click the link to read all about them.

  2. Garmin InReach Mini 2 - This one is on sale for $299 right now (25% off!) Communicate with your loved ones or call for help when you're out of range of cell service See on Amazon See at REI.com

  3. A USB powered heated sleeping pad to stay toasty warm when camping. This is lightweight and compact. It kept us all comfortable when tent camping on some cold nights.

  4. Work Gloves for your recovery kit. Quality gloves are key anytime you need to use recovery gear, and for many other trail activities from vehicle repair to clearing fallen branches.

  5. Heavy Duty Work Gloves, for when you need a bit more protection.

  6. Rugged navigation tablet with GPS. This one is robust but won't break the bank at $199.99. It features an android operating system and a clear screen that provides better visibility than using your phone. We do recommend adding a screen protector.

  7. Reliable compass for fail-safe navigation. You've got your garmin and your GPS tablet, but it's still wise to have a compass on hand in case your technology fails or you are out longer than expected and run out of battery.

  8. A Ferro Rod and fire starters. This is an essential component of any kit when traveling in remote areas.

  9. Sidewall Repair Kit for those unexpected tire failures that can stop you in your tracks. Literally.

  10. Load-rated carabiners for high-lift jack winching and other trail applications.

  11. Temporary Tie Rod Repair Tool. Believe us when we say this is essential if you frequent Class VI roads!

  12. Portable CO Detector for camping. If you use a heater in your tent or camper, you should have one of these for safety.

  13. ARB Rapid Deflator. A reasonably priced option for airing down before you hit the trails.

  14. A quality first aid kit. We like kits from MyMedic for their high quality products and supplies and ease of refilling used items. Check out the MyFAK Standard or MyFAK Standard Pro. We carry the Pro in all our ENH vehicles. Pair it with a Wilderness First Aid course or our brand new First Aid for Overlanding course to learn how to use all your new equipment. After all, a kit does you no good unless you know what's in it and how to use it!

  15. A GMRS radio for on-trail communication. If you don't want a permanently mounted radio, check out this handheld GMRS. We've been using these for a year and we think it's awesome! BTech GMPS Pro Push to Talk Button
