Your guide to the best roads and waterfalls in the White Mountain Region. Check out the landscapes along the scenic Kancamagus Highway, enjoy waterfalls both well known and off the beaten path, find a few covered bridges, enjoy local foods, and spend some time in the woods! Stop for a snack and enjoy local food.

This route is suitable for most any vehicle and any time of year (road conditions permitting). The trip is particularly beautiful in winter when the falls are frozen.

This map is no longer available for purchase. We made the decision to discontinue it for several reasons:

Changing Road Conditions - We run the guided version of this trip multiple times per year, and its never the same. Some roads have been closed permanently, or face temporary closures due to weather conditions. Each season changes the difficulty or features of the roads. With these frequently changing conditions, older versions of maps contain inaccurate information regarding routes, difficulty, and conditions that can lead to unfortunate situations. Old/outdated maps can also cause issues with landowners or send travelers in the wrong direction.

Misuse of Roads - Unfortunately, some users of the route have made poor choices - traveling out of season, camping in restricted areas, and more. This reflects poorly on ExploringNH in a way that harms our family business. The seasonal closure dates are not constant and the static nature of the maps can't convey information about when things are open yearly.

Misuse of Maps - We were excited for the popularity of the route, but we found many instances of people publicly posting our maps and associated documents, selling the maps to others, or even guiding paid trips using the map we created. These are all in violation of the terms of service clearly stated with the purchase of the map. Sharing with your travel companions was never an issue - but charging people to lead the trip using our documentation or posting it online is. This is especially problematic when the maps being used or posted are outdated. How do we know? We work very closely with all of the other businesses that were listed as resources for lodging, camping, and food. Word of mouth spreads quickly, especially negative news.
